Higher education talent
Tampere University and TAMK together form the Tampere Universities community. Measured by first-choice applicants, TAMK is among Finland's most popular universities of applied sciences in the spring joint application. In 2025, 3,513 degree students started at TAMK.
Rail and airport
Several dozen trains run from Tampere to Helsinki on weekdays, with the fastest journey taking about 1.5 hours. Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is in Pirkkala, about 17 kilometres from Tampere city centre. In 2025 more than 20 million journeys were made on the Tampere tram on its 22.3-kilometre operational line.
Attractiveness and services
In the Reputation and Trust Analytics study, surveyed in January 2026, Tampere was the most attractive of Finland's ten largest cities and has held first place since 2020. Business Tampere is the economic development company of the Tampere city region, and its location services are always free of charge and confidential. In Kangasala, Business Kangasala Oy sells and markets the city's business plots.
Investments and new areas
According to Metso, the Lokomotion technology centre is an overall investment of more than €200 million, with the first phase due to be completed in August 2027. The renewal of Tampere's passenger railway yard, with a total budget of €202 million, includes a travel terminal at the station. A tram connection and the new Kehä II ring road are planned through Kangasala's future Saarenmaa business area.
Tampere region in figures
Tampere's population grew by a total of 3,157 people in 2025. At the end of the year, Tampere had 263,337 residents and Kangasala 34,379. According to Business Tampere, the Tampere city region is Finland's second largest economic area.
